Semi are from Cork,
Ireland. They are not quite as quirky as other quirky Cork bands, which
means they are quirky for a Cork band. Toil, gigs, more toil and more gigs brought them to the point where it was decided to hibernate for a bit to record an album. The outcome of this disappearance you should now have in your hand or better still it should be spinning on your equipment and filling your middle ear with its sweet tunes. Mervyn In Toronto was recorded in Nancy Spain's in Cork (where the band rehearse) and also in the producer's attic. DIY or what! The band were desperate to hold onto the power of their live performance during the recording sessions, and strove to successfully capture this energy on a powerful debut CD containing ten songs choc-o-bloc with individual hooks and melodies. Ten songs that cover a wide variety of subjects ranging form dysfunctionality to TV shows, via reflection, isolation, self doubt, drug highs, love, religion, Germans and Barry White (now there's a man). While enjoying the recording process that allowed the band the opportunity to mess around with various ideas and sounds, the live performance is still the place to fully appreciate the essence of Semi.
